Gosaikunda Lake is located at an altitude of 4380m/14370 ft in Rasuwa district is one of the spectacular trekking destinations reached with short trek from Kathmandu. Gosaikunda is an alpine freshwater oligotrophic lake in Nepal’s Langtang National Park. Group of lakes and surrounding peaks make the place strange. View point above the lake is overlooking at the Langtang valley and the wide range of Himalayan peaks. Gosaikunda trek begins right from Shivapuri National Park in the northern rim of Kathmandu valley providing the magnificent view of the snow peaks. The Gosaikunda area has been delineated as a religious site. Hindu mythology attributes Gosaikunda as the abode of the Hindu deities Lord Shiva and Goddess Gauri. It is believe that Lord Shiva, to save the Universe from poison, drank the poison extracted from the sea and with a burning throat had to final some place to cool himself down. So he struck his trident to release to burst of water, in a place now refers to as Trishuldhara which is the source of Gosaikunda as well as the famous river, Trishuli. The Hindu scriptures “Bhagavata Purana” and Vishnu Purina” and the Hindu epics “Ramayana” and “Mahabharata” refer to Samundra Manthan, which is directly related to the origin of Gosaikunda. In the cascade of same events, Lord Shiva is believed to have created multiple lakes, which includes the famous Bhaira Kunda and Naag kunda among others.
